Gods Game Player Guide+Set Breakdown+Gods Special Set
The Gods Special Set can be considered a set unto itself, but its cards are split across the other sets, serving to advance the story or introduce characters that might not otherwise fit into the colors or scales of the set/era. Rather than possessing 300 cards like the other sets, it has a card for each god and its variants, for a total of 900 cards. By design, there are the 6 primes, 12 mono-colored greater gods, 18 dual-colored greater gods, 48 dual-colored main gods, and 220 three-color lesser gods. With 3 variants of each god (but not each prime), this brings the total to 900.
Having three variants of each god or goddess serves a few purposes. It allows us to depict the growth and change of a god, show how the same god might be represented in different pantheons, or to emphasize the divine aspects (Avataric Power, Immortal Secret, and Legendary Style) of each god. It can also be that each variant represents a different god or goddess that happens to appear in the same colors, or the same god or goddess might change colors (for example, a three-color lesser god might ascend to become a two-color greater god). Ultimately, this set exists to help organize the game as a whole. Nine hundred might seem like a lot of gods, until you realize that many real-world religions have thousands of gods, and even games like D&D have more (across all editions and settings). We'd like to keep the number manageable, focusing on the greater gods for most of the game.
